That was then...Barbara is a Grammy Award winning singer songwriter who has appeared at the White House three times, performed in all 50 states, as well as Japan, Korea, the Philippines, and Thailand. She grew up in Detroit, Michigan and launched her career in music while studying art at Michigan State University. She toured colleges & universities throughout the United States and was voted "Best Solo Performer", "Best Acoustic Performer", and "Best Female Performer" in a national magazine poll. Advertising production houses discovered her smooth and powerful voice and chose her to sing hundreds of commercials for McDonald's, Hallmark Cards, Heinz, and other national advertisers. In 1996 she was awarded the music industry's highest recognition when she received a Grammy Award for "Best Musical Recording for Children", After nearly 4 decades of enjoying a successful career in her chosen field, Barbara retired from the music business and found her way back to being a visual artist.
This is now...After making a living as a singer-songwriter, touring for nearly four decades, Barbara has detoured back to the path strayed from in College where she majored in art. While music was her job all those years, art remained her passion. She is a painter of portraits. Her portraits are of people, pets, posies, and places, but most often 'heads', up close and personal. Portrait commission work keeps her busy, but she has learned to make time to paint just for pleasure. Maybe the subject is someone who caught her eye, or simply a moment in time. Her work includes subjects from various walks of life who live all around the world.
She recently stepped down from co-directing Kanuga Watermedia Workshops in Montreat, NC, with her husband Chris. They are both looking forward to traveling to places they haven't yet visited as the world opens up again... |
